found at night on sandy patches of ground surrounded by chaparrel. blaphyllis is the subgenus , but I'm not sure if I should label it as eleodes instead?

Another stinking Eleodes! I've narrowed it down to two species, but I need to see the anterior margin of the pronotum in a level plane.

I'll take some new better pictures as soon as the weather clears up, which in Nor Cal is going to be another 5 or 6 days. :( what possible two species could it be?
