Wondered about Syrphus vitripennis, but not sure if ID is possible from this photo.

The markings on tergite 2 are
The markings on tergite 2 are very oblique and the abdomen narrow and looks rolled. I am wondering if it is Parasyrphus relictus. Safe in Syrphini. Do you have any more images?

Some Parasyrphus images. Note the colour of the hind leg, (totally dark).
Sample ID 105802 .... Note the long oblique markings on tergite 2 in this sample ID.

Have checked out the BOLD images and that really helps.

We also ordered Jeff Skevington's new field guide. It just came in today's mail. I thought it would be completely focused on the east, but I'm delighted to see that the range maps include the Pacific Northwest - really awesome from our perspective. Hopefully, with that in hand, I won't make quite so many basic mistakes!
