When I first spotted these guys they appeared to be eating a soft scale insect


Tiny indeed...
These are Ectopsocopsis cryptomeriae (Family Ectopsocidae). One can see on the specimen to the right, the unusual "elaborate dorsal schlerotiazion on the male terminal abdomen" (1).

I was anxious to find out, a little surprised. There are Lice of all different shapes and sizes.
