Phaenops drummondi

Phaenops drummondi
Bigelow Preserve, 45.1320, -70.2033, Somerset County, Maine, USA
July 6, 2018
Size: 8 mm
Many seen on distressed (recently blew over in wind storm although some of the roots still barely hanging on to the rock face) Red Spruce (Picea rubens) tree in bright sunlight. Approximate GPS 45.1320, -70.2033 and elevation about 2500 feet.

I sent a series to Ted MacRae and he very kindly made the determination. These beetles are very small and the elytral costae are indistinct but present. Specimens to be deposited with the Ted MacRae and Maine Forest Service collections.
