Catalog of the Heteroptera, or True Bugs of Canada and the Continental United States By Thomas J. Henry, Richard C. Froeschner Brill Academic Publishers, 1988
A thick book cataloging all 3834 North American species from 45 families. Things have probably changed some since 1988, but at almost 1000 pages there's lots of good info here. Mostly the species are just listed, but there are some illustrations and sometimes distribution info.
I wouldn't recommend paying the going used rate of over $100 for this, but I got lucky on a new copy off eBay for a good bit less than that.
If someone wants me to look something up for them in my copy, I'd be happy to do that. Just send me an email and be patient, it may take me a few days to get around t

How to Know the True Bugs By Slater, James A., and Baranowski, Richard M. Wm. C. Brown Company, 1978
Part of the Pictured Key Nature Series. This one is, as of this writing (2004), out-of-print and hard to find. Very useful, in that it illustrates all families and many genera of Hemiptera. Widespread or notable species are described in each genus. Almost 500 illustrations.
Additional note 7/6/24. Long out-of-print, and rarity on the used market has caused insane algorithmic pricing. One hopes it will be reprinted eventually in some form. Despite its deficiencies, still a useful reference.

Catalogue of the specimens of Heteropterous-Hemiptera in the collection of the British Museum By Walker, F. Printed for the Trustees of the British Museum, London, 1867
Full Text - BHL
Walker, F. (1867) Catalogue of the specimens of Heteropterous-Hemiptera in the collection of the British Museum, Part I: 1-240.
PREFACE
THE object of the present Catalogue is to give a complete List of all the genera and species of Heteropterous Hemiptera known to exist in the collections of European and American Entomologists. The letters a, b, c, &c., after the species, denote the specimens now contained in the British Museum, followed by the habitat and the mode in which each of them was obtained; and the absence of these letters indicates the species which are desiderata, and therefore desirable to be procured for the collection.
