Phidippus female - Phidippus californicus - female

Phidippus female - Phidippus californicus - Female
Lahontan Reservoir, west shore, Lyon County, Nevada, USA
August 27, 2018
Size: 6 mm
Tim Manolis beat this female from desert scrub and collected it to rear in captivity. He gave it to me much later to photograph and preserve as a specimen. He thought it might be P. californicus, but he has not yet seen the specimen images.

Moved
Moved from Phidippus.

ID'd by Tim Manolis, who comments: " I think this is californicus. The pattern is reasonable for a female. I have seen similarly marked individuals at Honey Lake Wildlife Area, where I collected an adult male californicus once (IDed by GB Edwards). As you say, the epigynal views aren't spectacular, but as you also say, there isn't anything else that looks closer. The sketches in Gardner's 1965 paper are a better match, and these are of Nevada/Great Basin californicus".
