beetle pupa species?

beetle pupa species?
Buchanan, Berrien County, Michigan, USA
May 9, 2019
Size: 24mm
This was found by a volunteer during a field trip at Fernwood Botanical Gardens and Nature Preserve. I would guess she found it under a log or in some leaves but I'm not sure. If that would be useful for ID I can see if she remembers.

Any clue of genus or even family? I have no experience with beetle pupae.

Thanks!
Wow! I would never have guessed it was a crane fly. I guess I assumed beetle because I had seen beetle pupae with horns sticking out from the body. How did you know it was a crane fly?
