This is another example of why I really don't feel comfortable in identifying distant photographs of most ground beetles viewed in the field. In talking to other carabid experts, I find that I'm not alone with this sentiment. Accordingly, my BugGuide replies have been more hesitant and noncommittal recently. Specimens of Patrobus and Nebria under the scope are so easily distinguished by both you and I. However, with this example and others it seems you have the added gift of astute photo analysis.
