Datana perspicua? Or D. perfusa or a hybrid? - Datana
Sweeney Granite Mountains Desert Research Center, San Bernardino County, California, USA
June 2, 2019
Size: approx 25mm body length
This individual has the spot and slanted incomplete band leading into the wingtip of all the D. perspicua shown in bugguide. But OTOH it barely has any hint of scalloping at the rear wing edge and the wing spot+bands are much less contrasty with the surfaces between them, which is more similar to the D. perfusa examples in bugguide. Do both species ever hybridize? Salvador Vitanza's photo#1253474 especially resembles this one, except it doesn't have a slanted band at wing tip. Is D. perfusa likely to show up in the California part of the mojave desert? (all bugguide images of D.perfusa so far are from Arizona)
