aquatic isopod - Caecidotea

aquatic isopod - Caecidotea
Groton, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, USA
January 27, 2008
Size: about 8mm
Our sump pump needs to be replaced, and when I was checking it, I notices these bugs swimming around in the sump well. They appear to be some kind of aquatic isopod. They swim around like mayfly larva.

New suborder for bugguide!
Nice find, Tom.

After I found this one in my sump well,
I saw about 10 more in pools of water on top of the ice on the swamp out back. Apparently they're common if you look in the right places.

Thanks John
for the info, and Martin for making the pages.
