Tebenna on Wild Quinine - Tebenna silphiella - female

Tebenna on Wild Quinine - Tebenna silphiella - Female
Elizabethtown, Hardin County, Kentucky, USA
May 20, 2019
I reared this Tebenna from Parthenium incanum (Wild Quinine). The larvae were initially leaf folders on edge of leaf, then formed a silken platform in center of mature leaves, pulling sides of leaf in towards center. They fed by scraping/skeletonizing the dorsal leaf surface. I'll attach photos of larvae and feeding sign, pupa, etc. It looks like silphiella to me, but has more orange in the central forewing, so interested to know what others think. Specimen is being prepped now, emerged last week (June 2, 2019), appears to be a female. I'll post pics when it comes off the board.

Moved, Tebenna silphiella
Moved from Tebenna. What was the host? The known host of this species is Silphium integrifolium (rosinweed). You wrote that this was reared from "Parthenium incanum (Wild Quinine)." Wild quinine is Parthenium integrifolium; Parthenium incanum is not found in the eastern US.

Tebenna
Hi Aaron,

I meant Parthenium intergrifolium.

Thanks
This is a nice range extension

Tebenna
Yes, I was surprised when it emerged! New foodplant as well.
