Athous nigropilis - male

Athous nigropilis - Male
Eugene, Lane County, Oregon, USA
June 11, 2019
Size: ~11mm
ID confirmed by Blaine Mathison through physical specimen sent in mail.

I found this click beetle between 12 Midnight and 1 AM at the porch light, which I had left accidentally left on from the night before.

Other things found at the porch light include small moths, a lacewing, some soldier beetles, mosquitoes, and a damselfly of all things.

I kept the click beetle in a dirt filled plastic container I've been using to comfortably house insects while I sleep, as I need sunlight for the most natural pictures. Unfortunately, the following day got to 95F when I was taking my photos, leading to me having less patience for great quality, and not getting as many shots as I normally would have.

With any luck, I'll be able to find some more at the lights in the coming weeks.
