Thanks for the kind words
The lens was a Canon 100 mm. f2.8 macro lens. The photo was cropped from the central 1/4 of the original.
The key to the appearance of the image is more related to the lighting rather than the lens. All of our photos are with flash, usually strongly diffused. For a discussion on this subject see the eleventh topic in the photography forum entitled "Canon Settings for spider eye shot".
