Three spots or three patches? - Heterophleps triguttaria

Three spots or three patches? - Heterophleps triguttaria
Fairfield, Wayne County, Illinois, USA
August 19, 2007
I took this as H. triguttaria but then noticed the dark lines. But it doesn't look very much like the images that we have identified as H. rufusaria or those that are on the web. Does anyone have a resource that describes H. morensata?

Heterophleps
This is Heterophleps triguttaria. The AM line isn't correct for refusaria, and triguttaria can have the individual variation with the more prominent AM and PM lines (examples here). The description of morensata (see Nannia morensata, Hulst) doesn't quite fit your specimen (example here), so I believe it can be ruled out as well.

Thanks
for the correction.

Moved from Heterophleps.

Ooooh, Nice and Fresh!
There's a photo of Heterophleps refusaria that is much like this (showing lines and fringe) in "Geometrid Caterpillars of Northeastern and Appalachian Forests," p. 211. My hunch tells me that's what this is. I'd like to see H. morensata too. It must be pretty scarce but possibly also in your area. It was described from Wisconsin. I can't find photo or description of it.
