Possible Underground mole or camel Cricket - Gryllotalpa gryllotalpa

Possible Underground mole or camel Cricket - Gryllotalpa gryllotalpa
South Kent, Litchfield County, Connecticut, USA
June 4, 2019
Size: three inches
Found when digging fence posts in wet soil. Looks similar to a northern mole cricket but this one was much larger.

This is the introduced Gryllotalpa gryllotalpa (from Europe), established in Westchester co, NY, and a few adjacent counties in CT. Much larger than the native Neocurtilla as you noted; there are also differences in the tibial dactyls on the forelegs. Hoping to see these for myself this fall.

Moved from Mole Crickets.

Thank you!
Thank you for clarifying our ID Request with respect to the Gryllotapla species. I never even knew we had an introduced species.

Cheers,

Laurie
