Perhaps Creosote bush katydid (Insara covilleae). Here's an image:

Creosote Bush
We are 15 to 20 miles from the closest creosote bush. But, the critter does have some resemblence to that adult.

 
Agree on genus.
Not sure this can be put to species....

Its safer to leave it at the Genus level unless some one has an image series showing the connection.
