Los Angeles County Arboretum and Botanic Garden, Arcadia, Los Angeles County, California, USA
February 5, 2008
2:15:07 PM. I observed this butterfly until shortly after 3 PM, when this section of the Arboretum was already in shade, and getting noticeably cooler. Because of the cool temperature (~ 48F without the sun, and last night's low at 37F), I suspect that this individual didn't take its first flight until the next morning. Perhaps it will join other Monarchs at one of the coastal wintering sites?

WOW!
I love the angle of this shot!
The blue background really makes the monarch stand out.
Great capture!
:))

Lovely series!
May I suggest you add the time you took it to each title - that way the time lapse could be viewed in thumbnail form, without opening each image.

Good suggestion -
thanks, Hannah! I was unfamiliar with this interesting feature.
