Unusual Marking - Dauber?? - Eumenes bollii
Pasadena, Los Angeles County, California, USA
May 23, 2019
Looks very much like a dauber wasp, but the yellow/black pattern does not match anything I can find in books or online. Various apps call it a paper wasp, but the coloring is sufficiently different there that I am doubtful. Thoughts?

On second consideration, it seems safe to move it here.

Black v. Brown
That’s definitely it. I don’t know why it never showed up in my efforts to locate an ID. . They are half a dozen other sittings within five miles with same markings here under this name. But it is so much more black than many of the other illustration, so I wonder if the black might be a regional difference particular to Southern California?
