Note the "roping" along the costa. That is typical of Genus Bactra. Species ID is difficult and often requires dissection. Do you have a lateral? Possibly Bactra verutana.

Another shoot
Not of that individual. I went out to see if there was another one tonight, and there was. I created a separate entry for it here.

Victor,

I thought I remembered something new about this Genus, so I checked the species information pages. See the Bactra lancealina information page.

The experts now think that maybe all - at least most - Bactra in the US are B. verutana, so I must have been right in my ID. In doing that I noticed that they feed on reeds, indicating you need to be near some type of water to see them.

I don't see a Bactra lanceali
I don't see a Bactra lancealina page.

From Bactra Genus page click on the Taxonomy tab and all of the species for that Genus will be shown. Click on B. lancealina, then on the INFO tab and there is an explanation of what is going on in the Genus.
