Night Terror - Necrodes surinamensis

Night Terror - Necrodes surinamensis
Huntsville, Muskoka, Ontario, Canada
May 18, 2017
Size: 1.3 inches, 32 mm
For several days in a row these beetles woke me up frequently in mid-May, loudly buzzing around in my bedroom. When turning on the light they tried to hide. Took them outside, sometimes 4 or 5 at a time, total of 20 to 30 over a few nights. They hatched?, developed? or overwintered in my basement. Located on a lake in mainly deciduous forest.

Night Terror
Thanks, Will.
They never scared me. Just were extremely annoying.
Living in the bush I am used to all kinds of creepy-crawlies. ;-)
Always take them outside alive!
Cheers,
Gustav
