River Haven Drive at 2100 feet in the Sierra foothills, Mariposa County, California, USA

In a residential vegetable garden on fennel flowers that were attracting an incredible number of Hymenoptera. This wasp appeared to my eye to be solid black, but apparently the ring flash caused it to iridesce blue in the photos.
