Abbott's Sphinx - Sphecodina abbottii

Abbott's Sphinx - Sphecodina abbottii
Hwy 55 and Sedwick, Durham County, North Carolina, USA
May 9, 2005
Size: 30 mm
Lateral view shows the cryptic, tail-up posture. I did not manipulate this moth--this was its natural pose.

I removed my ringflash from the lens and held it up over the moth, slightly to the left, to get more pleasing lighting. It worked well, I think.
