Quispamsis, Saint John County, New Brunswick, Canada

Size: ~25 mm
I came across this large wasp specimen in the morning perched on a wooden workhorse that was in the shade. It was lethargic and, I expect, still cool from the night before. I only had my cell phone with me and took a few images with this one being the best. At first glance I thought that it might be a Syrphid fly but the antennae are too long.

Any help in identifying this interesting specimen would be greatly appreciated.
