small flies reared in grub carcass

small flies reared in grub carcass
Syracuse, Onondaga County, New York, USA
July 24, 2019
I was keeping a few grubs from the backyard to try and rear them and when one died, I decided to wait and see what would happen. Very soon I noticed several maggots consuming the grub and then pupated in or near the remains. At least eight small flies, resembling vinegar flies in size and shape, emerged. I was able to capture four of them and kept them for a few days for the chance to photograph them. They move erratically, running constantly and turning at angles, almost never flying. Had to chill them for photos. I would love to know what kind of fly I raised!
