Fire ant? - Solenopsis

Fire ant? - Solenopsis
Brownsville, Texas, USA
July 25, 2019
Size: 6mm

Moved
Moved from Ants.

Definitely a fire ant
Do you still have the specimen on hand? A clypeal shot and preferably a full body shot is needed for ID. Solenopsis geminata is the dominant species in the area, but S. invicta can be found in irrigated residential areas and agricultural fields. This page shows a good drawing of a clypeal view.

New image
I've added an image (of the same specimen) that I took on the same day. It was the best picture I got. I hope it's enough.

The second image provided
is actually a completely different ant - Camponotus atriceps, a common carpenter ant found in the valley. I have unlinked it and moved it to the correct species. I'll move this to "fire ants" for now, if there are no other views available.
