Ant swarm - Tetramorium immigrans - female

Ant swarm - Tetramorium immigrans - Female
Ridgewood, Queens County, New York, USA
July 26, 2019
Size: minute
The ants have been swarming every couple of weeks in the same spot. I see no evidence of fighting, food sources, reproductives or larvae. Does anyone have any idea what they're doing?

This is a territorial battle of pavement ants. I see these pretty commonly on sidewalks in the northeastern states. If you look closely you can see that they are all locked in combat

Moved from Ants, Bees, Wasps and Sawflies.
