Checkered beetle plus friend

Checkered beetle plus friend

Size: around 9mm
Sorry I don't have better pics -- my hiking companions had outdistanced me and I hurried. I assume the beetle is a type of checkered beetle? But also, when I looked at pic 2 on the computer, I noticed a tiny insect next to the beetle's mandibles -- is this a triangulin? Thanks!

Moved from Beetles.

Pseudoscorpion
Your beetle's passenger looks to be a pseudoscorpion. Many of them are known to travel on beetles. I can see a claw dangling on the right hand side of the creature.

I think your beetle is a Metallic Wood-boring Beetle in the Buprestidae but it's difficult to be certain.
