Bumblebee Nest - Bombus melanopygus

Bumblebee Nest - Bombus melanopygus
Kodiak, Kodiak County, Alaska, USA
June 19, 2019
Emerging from the nest. I found the eggs strewn about on the path as if an animal or a person had found them and dropped them there. This one had its egg torn open so it seemed like it was emerging prematurely, but it looked mostly developed.

There was one adult crawling around near them. I will link photos of it with these ones.

Technically, these are not eggs. They are the wax cells that the brood is raised in. This one has a ready-to-emerge adult in it. A predator must have dug up the nest.
