Bug on a Maple Tree - Megarhyssa macrurus - Female

Size: 2" X 2"
laying eggs into a diseased Maple Tree. I saw this bug with it's 6" long proboscus(?) inserted into the tree (over it's back and into the tree) on a few occasions, the male appeared to be a 1/3rd her size

M. macrurus…
It's the female's ovipositor that drills into the tree.
