Small Mayfly - Callibaetis ferrugineus

Small Mayfly - Callibaetis ferrugineus
Hampshire County, Massachusetts, USA
May 9, 2005
Size: Body: 10 mm

Moved
Moved from Callibaetis.

Callibaetis
This is probably a female C. ferrugineus ferrugineus imago.

Callibaetus
Fine example of Callibaetus (Baetidae), an imago (or spinner) by the clear wing membrane.

Thanks Kerry,
I thought it might have been a Callibaetus sp.

seasonal changes
Callibaetus may have a number of hatches throughout the season. Some species will exhibit progressive changes. Early season specimens may have the entire leading edge of the wing with a large dark "stripe", late season may have just a few small darkened spots. The body size will also get smaller as the year progresses.
