Caterpillar -
Litoprosopus futilis
Tallahassee, Leon County, Florida, USA
July 17, 2019
Size: Length ≈20mm
Picked off house wall. A guess:
Acronictinae
caterpillar? I meant to raise it but was unable to find food it would accept.

Litoprosopus futilis
John and Jane/'s suggestion looks better the more often I look at these caterpillars. The brown head band of the caterpillar they show appears to be "optional" as is assumed also for this one
. However, it's author refers to white-ringed black bases of the "setae 1a and 1b on the mesothorax" as being diagnostic, and I am not sure whether I see them on my caterpillar or just glare from the ambient light. Anyway everything else matches caterpillars posted as
Litoprosopus futilis
.

Looks right to me
Thanks, Jane and John - except for the brown band across the head (that not all caterpillars in BG share) mine looks very much like the one you show. Yes, there is a palmetto in my front yard, but approx. 30m from the house wall - makes me wonder why the caterpillar would wander so far (parasitized?). Anyway, I photographed a
Litoprosopus futilis
at my lights 6 years ago (not posted because redundant for this location).
