Size: 1 inch
Is this a beneficial insect? Several have populated our sunflowers and I am wondering if they are assassin bugs lurking to catch pollinating insects or if they are interested in eating our sunflower seeds? They hide under the sunflower petals and fly away to a different sunflower when we approach them. I have not noticed them attacking other bugs or eating sunflower seeds. There are tomato plants and citrus in the same area of our yard.

Welcome to BugGuide!

Thank you!
So it's an eastern leaf footed bug that likes to eat citrus and apparently also sunflowers. Time to go pick them off the sunflowers before they infest our citrus trees!
