Size: 2.5mm
Found on young pine tree. I have it in a container now to see what emerges. Any guesses?

Only a guess,
but maybe a fungus gnat like this one:
...they're both on pine needles, for whatever that's worth!

cocoon in a container to see what comes out. If something emerges, I'll get some images of it. Thanks!

Sad to say...
I noticed that whatever it was in the cocoon hatched and I never found out what it was. It must have escaped when I opened the container.
