Ants Swarming - Brachymyrmex patagonicus

Ants Swarming - Brachymyrmex patagonicus
Austin, Travis County, Texas, USA
August 4, 2019
Size: 3.4mm and 1.5mm
These ants were attracted to a UV light. At first I thought they were two different species, but their behavior indicates they are the same species, often grooming each other or otherwise communicating quite energetically with their antennae while facing each other. This occurred with the small ones facing each other or the large ones facing the small ones. I saw the large ones congregating but not grooming each other.
