Size: half an inch
Found about ten of these opaque bugs in our water filter, and a couple in our water storage tank. Time mid day. Water is from an underground spring.

Some sort of amphipod?

Clearly no one has ventured a guess at what these might be. Tough to tell from the photos whether they have 6 legs or 8 - makes a big difference. My initial thoughts are an isopod or perhaps an aquatic insect larva. Even though I live in the area, I cannot recall seeing anything like this before. They are likely not hazardous or harmful regardless.

They were not there for the first couple of years..

We capped off the spring for a few days, then uncapped it..to flush it out. Haven't seen any more yet. Will stay in touch with you if we do. If they come back I will count their legs. Thanks for your update..much appreciated. Lesley.
