Black horse fly? - Tabanus atratus

Black horse fly? - Tabanus atratus
Rural, outside Richmond, Hanover County, Virginia, USA
August 12, 2019
Size: Approx 1.25”
One shot looks like red under wing. One shot looks like a dab of red under head. It was enormous! Spent most of the time walking along driveway. Flew a short distance once and a while. Finally disappeared into the tall grass.
