Black and white bumblebee California? - Mallophora fautrix

Black and white bumblebee California? - Mallophora fautrix
Redondo Beach, Los Angeles County, California, USA
August 9, 2019
Size: 3/4th inch
It was the size of a bumblebee, fluffy like one and sounded like one. But 30 years of living here and I've never in my life seen a black and white bumblebee.

Moved from ID Request.

Bee Killer

So it's a fly?! That's crazy.
So it's a fly?! That's crazy... I live in the thick of the city so we don't get too many exotic bugs or animals here. If it is local to southern California I've never seen one before. The picture doesn't do it justice but it caught my eye cause it was super noticeable with silver and black fur with a weird buzzing noise.

Glad I stayed far away from it... thank god for zoom.
