Didn't you have another one, slightly darker than this one? It was better and I think that it was the unmodified one. I think that you go through a lot of trouble brightening images that don't need brightening. Do you mind posting it again so we can be sure?
Always remember: for documentation purposes it is better to reduce image processing to a minimum or none at all.
