Do you have more pictures of this ant
Particularly of the face and with more light? I think this is P. californicus which is common in the area but it seems to rough for that species.

Yes
I kept 3-4 individuals. I will get more photos. What caught my eye was that all of them had what appeared to be a different color "hair" on their head - a light brown. It does not show in the pictures and may have been dirt or something else but seemed pretty uniform across all the individuals.
