aquatic insect nymph - Timpanoga hecuba

aquatic insect nymph - Timpanoga hecuba
Goodyear's Bar, Sierra County, California, USA
August 20, 2019
Size: tiny, maybe 3mm-5mm
These aquatic insects were on the undersides of rocks in the rushing North Yuba River. Their gills are the dark areas on the sides at the end of the body. I could see them moving!

Hi Katie-

I believe this mayfly nymph to be Timpanoga hecuba.

Thanks so much for the ID! They are so ornately strange looking!

You are certainly welcome,
