carrot wasp - Gasteruption - female

carrot wasp - Gasteruption - Female
Boulder, Boulder County, Colorado, USA
July 1, 2019
Size: unsure
I know the identity of this wasp (carrot wasp, family Gasterruptiidae). I saw her on my bee block in the act of laying her egg in a completed aphid wasp nest. My question is, why does she have what appears to be two ovipositors. One white tipped and the other between her legs and inserted into the aphid wasp nest?

Gasteruption…
The female's ovipositor is encased in a sheath (trailing behind it with a white tip) which protects it from being damaged when not in use.

See reference here.
