Gulf Fritillary caterpillar - Agraulis incarnata

Gulf Fritillary caterpillar - Agraulis incarnata
Los Angeles Equestrian Center, Los Angeles County, California, USA
August 24, 2019
Size: 2 to 3 cm
On a fence along the southwest corner of the Equestrian Center I was checking a small Passionflower vine, wound into the fencing, when I noticed several caterpillars, feeding on the vine. For such a small creature, this caterpillar was a noticeably "fierce" eater, emphatically "tearing away" at the leaves and vine.
