Sara? Orangetip - Anthocharis sara - male

Sara? Orangetip - Anthocharis sara - Male
Santiago Oaks Regional Park, Orange County, California, USA
March 2, 2008
Size: ~4-5 cm
Couple of these flying around today. Pretty sure it's an Orangetip, but which one?

Moved
Moved from Sara Orangetip.

Male Sara Orangetip
Looks like a male Sara Orangetip to me. The larger areas of dark marking on the inner wingtip seems to most indicate that species over the Desert Orangetip. The Falcate Orangetip doesn't have hardly any dark markings on the inside such as this.

Subspecies is sara
We now have a new BG page for it.

Nice shot!
Later in the same month, there are a lot of these flying at Santiago Oaks and nectaring on mustard. (Last year, I saw zero there.

Yes, I saw some there last we
Yes, I saw some there last week (a month after this one) too, and today I saw one in the Butterfly Garden at San Joaquin.
