Steel-blue Cricket-hunter Wasp - Chlorion aerarium

Steel-blue Cricket-hunter Wasp - Chlorion aerarium
Griffith Park, Los Angeles County, California, USA
August 28, 2019
Size: approximately one inch
This individual was rapidly exploring the surface of a dirt fire road, as well as holes in the loose soil along the edge of trail, sometimes disappearing underground and returning to the surface. Because the wasp was engaged in what appeared to be hunting behavior, I am assuming that it was a female, though I cannot seem to find a clear description of any distinguishing visual factors between the sexes and would be anxious to learn of them.
