Fungus
Do you know the fungus/lichen in the picture. Seem too short for British soldier lichen. Just curious, thanks.

Thanks
I have always thought that they are very interesting. I'm more familiar with the type that looks like many little strands of "dusty chocolate spaghetti" (if that makes sense).

stemonitis
yea, makes sense :-) those are from the genus Stemonitis. I'm not sure but the ones in this photo may be some kind of Arcyria.

The 'fungus'...
looks like sporangia of a slime mould.

Vesicephalus sp.
At first sight I assumed this is most probably a new species in the genus Allacma. But then I noticed the large 'glass' interocular vesicles, typical to Vesicephalus.
To make sure specimens should be send to the expert on Northern American Symphypleona:
Dr Richard J. Snider
Department of Zoology
Michigan State University
East Lansing, MI 48824 - 1115
Please use as close to 95% alcohol as possible.

Thanks, Frans
I see exactly what you are talking about (interocular vesicles) -- fascinating. I haven't run across any more of these springtails yet but will keep Dr Snider's contact info in case.
