Stenomorphus sinaloae or convexior? - Stenomorphus sinaloae

Stenomorphus sinaloae or convexior? - Stenomorphus sinaloae
Tubac, Santa Cruz County, Arizona, USA
September 1, 2019
Size: ~20-25 mm
Came to black lights.

I moved to Stenomorphus sinaloae
because it makes most sense. Someone can always change it and so could I depending on my seeing more Arizona specimen material.

Moved
Moved from Ground Beetles.

Tentatively Stenomorphus sinaloae
based solely on shape of pronotum, i.e., long and narrow compared to the shape in the other two species known in Arizona. A dorsal perpendicular view would have captured better the true shape rather than this somewhat lateral oblique view. Accurate species identifications of Stenomorphus require physical examinations and published keys are reliable only for the males. Stenomorphus is a member of the genus group Selenophori, a taxonomic group that I'm currently researching.

I'm providing determinations for the Arizona carabid specimens sent to me from BugGuider Margarethe Brummermann who is coauthoring with Arthur Evans a forthcoming photographic atlas of Arizona beetles. Seth, any chance you can mail me this specimen (and your other AZ carabids) for confirmation? Please see my profile regarding this option. Thanks.

Thanks Peter. I don't have this specimen
but will get you any others I can. This one wouldn't hold still for a dorsal shot either!
