Vespa crabro & Dolichovespula maculata - Vespa crabro - female

Vespa crabro & Dolichovespula maculata - Vespa crabro - Female
Perry County, Pennsylvania, USA
This image is blury, but demonstrates the competition that goes on between species. should i move it to the guide?

taken in September, 07

I think you should
Because this one event involves two foundress queens rather than two workers of each species.
Moreover, a typical menace behavior of the European Hornet, i.e. the raising of the forelegs, is especially well shown.
The mere fact the Bald-faced queen did not flee at once is quite astonishing.
Only the date is missing. Even an approximate one would be nice.

Nice
How can you tell they are both queens? Anyways I saw that video, and that V crabo got pwned by that bald faced LOL

Great!
this photo was taken around september, when i had sugar water out for them.

actually, the bald faced hornets were dilibertly attacking and harassing the larger european hornets. bald faced seem to be bolder, while the european hornets are more shy and only attack in defense.
