Southeastern Canada and northeastern US west to Manitoba and Nebraska.
Type locality: New Mexico. (Apparently erroneous, Neunzig (2003); Heinrich (1956) suggested Maine.)
Type locality (inquilinella Ragonot, 1887): Wisconsin.
