Dogwood sawfly larvae - Macremphytus lovetti

Dogwood sawfly larvae - Macremphytus lovetti
Portland, Multnomah County, Oregon, USA
September 11, 2019
Size: 20 mm
I believe this image shows 2 instars of Macremphytus larva, undetermined species. Joe Boggs OSU Extension says there are 3 types that feed on various dogwood: M. tarsatus, M. testaceus, and M. semicornis. These were found munching on Cornus sericea in my yard. I collected a half dozen leaves with larvae working or resting & have the leaves in water, enclosed in a large container. Several molts have already occurred. This photo shows the final instar (yellow & black) and an intermediate instar (chalky white).

Adult emerged from these larva
I just submitted an image of the adult that emerged this summer from the larva I held in a jar over the winter.

I hope
Spencer K. Monckton will solve this riddle if you provide specimens.

Hello,
it must be Macremphytus lovetti according "Nearctic sawflies IV. Allantinae, 1979" and adults should be well distinguished from each other.

I wish you success!
