In strawberry (Fragaria virginiana).

Could it have been Potentilla?
I've never seen a gall like this on strawberry, but it looks like a Diastrophus potentillae gall.


I think you're probably right, thanks; the same on this one: . I'll have to look more closely and get some better full plant pictures next time.
